MERIDIAN WATER HEAT NETWORK NORTHERN EXTENSION

ENERGETIK

BACKGROUND

d3associates was commissioned by Energetik to undertake the concept design of the Meridian Water Heat Network Northern Extension. This community heat network will enable the supply of low carbon heat to over 50,000 homes and businesses across the London Borough of Enfield.

The large diameter pipe network stretches over 23km, from the new Meridian Water energy centre at Edmonton Eco Park, north to Ponders End, and west to Arnos Grove and beyond, connecting to several existing communal heat networks.

The Energy Centre will connect to the North London Waste Authority Recovery Facility once complete in 2026 and represents a £38M investment in low carbon energy providing sustainable heat for customers throughout the district.

OUTCOME

d3associates worked closely with Energetik to develop route options and considered both the technical constraints, and impact of the proposed route on the local community. The majority of the route runs within the highway, heavily congested with utilities, and includes sections of tunnelling below highway structures and large surface water culverts, and the construction of pipe bridges traversing waterways.

d3associates co-ordinated sub-consultants across a variety of specialisms to support both the technical design and planning application, to inform the design, mitigate project risks and establish a preferred pipe network route. Consultation was undertaken with a wide range of stakeholders from Enfield Council, The Environment Agency, and Transport for London

d3associates also undertook the Principal Designer role for the project in accordance with the CDM (2015) Regulations, ensuring that H&S was considered throughout the project.
