Develop an eco friendly well insulated family home from a pair of Grade 2 listed former fisherman's cottages that could initially be rented out as a spacious holiday home.
Convert the upstairs space that originally was for drying fishing nets into three bedrooms with on-suite bathrooms and a separate family bathroom.
The house is on a square of old fisherman's cottages looking out to sea, and is the largest on the square.
The interior was completely stripped including the removal of internal non-loadbearing stud walls, existing ceilings and asbestos. New floors were installed along with underfloor heating and the original fireplaces exposed and a woodburning stove installed.
A new staircase was formed to the first floor, and stud partitions constructed to form new bedrooms and bathrooms, new electrics and electric heating system installed and insulation provided in roof, walls and floors. Throughout the building existing woodwork was treated and a damp proof course installed. Additional rooflights were provided, the roof re-slated with existing slates and a breathable membrane installed.
Listed building consent, planning and building regulation applications were successfully made and the works were designed and tendered. d3associates managed the works on site and acted as Principal Designer co-ordinating the health & safety aspects of the scheme.
