d3associates was appointed to undertake the full design and project management of the new Burnhope Community Centre, partially funded by the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities Buildings Programme. The aim of the project is to provide the village of Burnhope, Co. Durham, with a purpose built, sustainable, accessible facility designed to meet the needs of the residents.
The work commenced in January 2016, the initial phases of concept and developed design being carried out in conjunction with staged submissions to the Big Lottery Fund and an application for full planning permission. The process involved working closely with the community group to ensure the schedule of accommodation provides the space required for the activities identified during the consultation with the residents of Burnhope. In addition, the building needs to be flexible enough to allow for future changes in demand, be light, welcoming, energy efficient, incorporate renewable energy technologies and easy to manage.
d3associates produced a full set of working drawings, specification and schedule of works which were issued to local contractors. Following a value engineering process to ensure the project is within budget, the contract was awarded with construction commencing in November 2017. The construction is programmed for completion in the summer of 2018. During this phase d3associates are also acting as contract administrators and as the Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations.
Andy Coulthard, Mid Durham AAP Coordinator said:
“Our experience with d3associates has been very positive and their work, directly with the community management committees, has been both supportive and clearly communicated. They provide excellent value as they can deliver all the professional services required to manage building projects from beginning to end under ‘one roof’. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to you”
